Question:
How does Chartbeat determine the traffic source of our native app visitors after the app SDKs are implemented?
Answer:
We categorize native app traffic by one of three sources:
- Direct - User sessions to landing pages within your app where no referrer data is present. These users are typically on their first page, your app homepage, after opening your app to catch up on the latest headlines.
- Internal - User sessions to article or landing pages within your app, having been directly referred by another page within your app. Our tracker identifies the internal referrer path and registers these users as Internal traffic.
- Links - User sessions to article pages within your app where no referrer data is present. These users are opening your app directly to one of your articles having been referred by a link on the web or one of your mobile push alerts. We classify this traffic as 'Deep links, push alerts' under the Links traffic source. If using push alert notifications, please refer to our technical documentation on setting a push alert identifier. This will enable a separate "Push Alerts" referrer in the dashboards for these alerts.
