The Video Dashboard gives you a real-time and historical look at how your video content is performing, how well it's doing at engaging your audience, and how it works together with the written, editorial content your readers know and love.
Main Metrics
There are 6 key metrics that you can look at in the Chartbeat Publishing Video Dashboard to help you understand how each of your videos is performing. You’re able to see how your videos are performing together in the site overview section in the dashboard, in addition to deep-dive metrics for specific videos, which you can pivot in in the left hand bar.
Watching Now: The number of people watching your video right now. This metric helps you understand, in real-time, which videos your audience has actually loaded and started watching.
Play Rate: The percentage of visitors who actually played your video.
When your visitors see an embedded video, are they clicking play? The thumbnail image, the content of the video, and the context of the video embed on the page itself all play a role.
Average Engagement: The percentage of how far through the video people are watching. How much of your video are your visitors actively watching? The longer they’re watching, the better experience they’re having, and the more likely they are to come back to you the next day and the day after that.
Engagement Score: A combination of popularity and engagement that ranks all your videos. Comparing video content can be inaccurate based purely on time or number of watches. Building off our Average Engagement metric, this score helps you easily compare video performance by grouping videos with similar characteristics.
Ad Drop-Off: The number of visitors leaving the video during ad pre-roll.
Pre-roll ads are great for monetizing content, but are some ads and video content not playing well together? We let you know, in real-time, how many people aren’t getting past the ad.
Starts Today: The total number of times this video has been started since midnight in whatever time zone your Dashboard is set to. Whether you're looking at your site overview or specific videos, you need to know how many times today your videos have been started. Use it as a benchmark to track how well your videos are reaching your audience.
Watching Now
The dial and graph at the top of the dashboard make it easy to glean how many visitors are watching videos on your site right now, simultaneous viewership levels throughout the day, and at-a-glance benchmarking to viewership levels last week. Hover over the dial to reveal a breakout of your active video watchers by count of players currently playing, paused, and completed.
Site Overview
Just below the Watching Now graph you'll find your Site Overview metrics, aggregating the performance of all videos on your site. Average Engagement tells you how far viewers are making it through your videos on average based on total content duration, Starts Today gives you total starts site-wide since midnight, Average Playrate represents the ratio of visitors choosing to play videos to total players loaded, Average Ad Drop-off gives the percentage of visitors that never reached your video after the pre-roll ad started playing.
Top Videos
On the left-hand side of the Video Dashboard, you can get a deeper look into how individual videos are performing. Ranked by the number of people actively watching now, quickly see the average engagement, play rate, number of starts, and engagement score for each of your top videos. You can choose to sort the top videos list by each of the five main metrics under the 'Sort by' drop-down to gain a better understanding of which videos are truly resonating with your audience.
The Engagement Score is a unique metric that incorporates both popularity and average engagement – allowing you to identify and compare your highest performing videos. Based on a scale from 0 to 10, the engagement score can instantly tell you which videos are doing well and which might need some extra attention.
Select any video from the list and the entire Dashboard pivots to reflect that video's performance as a whole as well as specific metrics for each page it lives on (under 'All Pages').
Select a particular page under the All Pages list to reveal a 'more stats' button that will take you directly to this site's Real-Time Dashboard for that article page, where you'll get all of the audience and referrer data you've come to expect from Chartbeat. Where did the audience watching this video come from? Are they spending any time engaging with the written content?
Top Pages Without Video
Beneath the Site Overview section you'll see Top Pages Without Video - a list of your site's top pages by concurrents that don't have video content so you can easily see if there are any opportunities to tie relevant video content into your written editorial pages.
