About GSC Data
Why doesn't Google Search Console match perfectly with Chartbeat data?
There are a number of differences between Google Search Console data and Chartbeat data:
- Google Search Console measures Clicks while Chartbeat measures Pageviews. These are inherently different metrics and will not match perfectly as there are many reasons why a click may not ultimately result in a pageview.
- Google Search Console data typically takes 24-48 hours to update (and is not real time), whereas Chartbeat data updates in real time. Chartbeat tracks reader activity every second and reports engagement stats back to our servers every 15 seconds, through the Chartbeat JS that is deployed when the code loads. Click here for more information on our methodology.
- Google Search Console updates and shows data in PST time zone, while Chartbeat shows data in your specific time zone.
- Chartbeat's Google Discover and Google Search referral data are based on approximations. See more data here.
Why can't I see Google Search Console data for articles published today?
Google Search Console data typically takes 24-48 hours to update (and is not real time). As such, the integration works best for articles published >48 hours ago. You may not see Google Search Console data populate for articles that are more recent.
Why can't I see Google Search data in the Real-Time Dashboard?
Google Search Console data typically takes 24-48 hours to update (and is not real time). As such, there is no way to query Google Serach Console for real time data.
About the GSC Integration
I don’t have access to my company’s Google Search Console, what should I do?
If you do not have access to your company’s Google Search Console, you cannot activate this integration. Please reach out to someone on your team with admin access and request access to all relevant sites on the account.
I don't see an Integrations tab in my Chartbeat Settings, why?
Only Chartbeat admins have access to the Integrations Tab. If you want to access Chartbeat integration settings, please reach out to your admin directly to update your permissions.
Why don’t I see my domains in the site selector modal?
If you do not see your domains in the site selector modal, there could be a number of reasons:
- You may not have access to that site in Google Search Console. To verify, you can log into Google Search Console, go to “Search Properties” and see if you have access to the desired domain. [To troubleshoot, please reach out to your Google Search Console admin to verify and correct.]
- Your domain name in Google Search Console may not match to any existing Chartbeat sites [To troubleshoot, please reach out to Chartbeat Support or your customer success manager.]
Why don’t I see any Google Search Console Data for an article?
There may be a number of reasons:
-
There is no Google Search Console data for that article yet. Google Search Console data typically takes 24-48 hours to update, so it will only appear for articles that have been published >48 hours ago.
- To verify, find an article published >48 hours ago and select a time frame >48 hours ago to confirm that Google Search Console data appears.
-
You have not successfully connected your Google Search Console account.
- To verify, revisit the Google Search Console integration modal and confirm there is a green checkmark positioned in the upper right corner.
-

-
There may be multiple versions of a domain (http vs. https) in Google Search Console.

A site was added to my Google Search Console account after I integrated Chartbeat with Google Search Console, but I do not see that site populate in the “Manage” modal of the integration nor see search performance data populating for that site - why?
Chartbeat only fetches your Google Search Console sites when you first authenticate your account. If any sites have been added or removed to your Google Search Console integration, you will need to disconnect your integration and reconnect in order to see the updates reflected in Chartbeat.

Why can’t I update / manage sites connected via the Google Search Console Integration?
Only users with direct access to sites in Google Search Console can update or manage those sites in Chartbeat. If you do not have access to a site in Google Search Console, you cannot make changes to that site via the Chartbeat integration.
If changes are needed to sites you do not have access to, please reach out to Chartbeat Support.
